Terms of Service

Last updated 20 September 2026

SplitOne keeps track of who owes what. It never moves your money. These are the rules for using it.

Agreement

These terms are between you and SplitOne, operated from India at splitone.in. By signing in or using the app you accept them. If you do not, do not use SplitOne.

What SplitOne is

SplitOne records shared expenses and works out who owes whom. It is a calculator and a shared notebook. It is not a bank, a wallet, a payment processor or a lender, and it holds no money at any point.

SplitOne does not move money between you and anyone else. When you settle up, you pay the other person directly — through UPI or any other way you agree on — and then mark it settled here. Marking something settled changes a record in SplitOne; it does not transfer anything, and it is not proof that a payment happened.

Debts between members of a room are between those members. Sorting out a disagreement about who paid what, or getting money back, is yours to do, not ours.

Your account

You sign in with Google and you need a valid Google account to use SplitOne. Keep it secure — anything done through your account is treated as done by you.

You must be at least 13 years old. If you use SplitOne for a group, you are responsible for what you enter about the other people in it.

Rooms and members

A room is shared with everyone in it. Every member can see the room's expenses, items, bill images, balances, settlements and any UPI ID a member has added, and can add or change expenses. Do not put anything in a room you would not want the whole room to read.

Anyone with the invite link or code can join a room. Share them only with people you want in it.

Room admins can manage members and room settings. The first person to claim a member slot in a room holds it.

What you may not do

  • Use SplitOne for anything unlawful, or to record transactions that are.
  • Upload bill images or content you have no right to upload, or that contain someone else's personal data you had no business sharing.
  • Try to reach rooms, accounts or data that are not yours, or to break the authentication.
  • Scrape the service, hammer the API, or work around rate limits and AI quotas.
  • Resell SplitOne or pass it off as your own.

Bill scanning and the AI assistant

Bill scanning and Ask SplitOne are powered by AI and get things wrong. Amounts can be misread, items can be missed, and an answer can be confidently incorrect. Check what it produces against the actual bill before you rely on it.

Uploading a bill or asking a question sends that image or question, and the room context the answer needs, to our AI provider for processing.

AI use is capped per day so one account cannot exhaust the service for everyone.

Paid passes

Splitting bills is free. The AI assistant is sold as a Trip Pass: one payment that adds Ask SplitOne to a whole room for 30 days from purchase.

A pass belongs to the room, not to the person who bought it, and every member of that room can use it while it lasts. It expires at the end of its 30 days, with nothing to cancel and no automatic renewal. Whoever buys it is responsible for the payment — recovering a share from the room is between them and the room.

When a pass expires, the room keeps every expense, balance and settlement; only the AI assistant stops. Prices may change, but a pass you have already bought runs its full term at the price you paid.

Passes are non-refundable once the AI assistant has been used on the room, except where the law says otherwise or where we could not deliver the service. If something went wrong, write to us and we will look at it.

Your content

What you put into SplitOne stays yours. You give us permission to store, process and display it as far as running the service requires — showing it to the other members of your room, backing it up, and sending it to the providers listed in our privacy policy.

You are responsible for what you upload being accurate and yours to upload.

Availability

SplitOne is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that balances will always be right — they are only as right as what the room entered. We may change, suspend or remove features, and we may take the service down for maintenance.

Keep your own record of anything that matters financially. Do not treat SplitOne as the only copy.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for money you paid or failed to recover from someone else, for a debt calculated from wrong entries, or for data loss. Our total liability to you is limited to whatever you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim, which for most users is nothing.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited under Indian law.

Ending it

You can stop using SplitOne whenever you like. To close your account, raise it through Contact support or email us — we handle closures by hand rather than with a button, so that a room's shared history is not destroyed for the members still relying on it. The privacy policy sets out exactly what is removed and what stays.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, abuses the service, or puts other users at risk. Where we reasonably can, we will tell you why.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top changes when we do, and for significant changes we will say so in the app. Continuing to use SplitOne after that means you accept the new version.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts of India have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
