Privacy Policy

SplitOne holds what a group needs to split a bill and nothing more. This page says exactly what that is.

Who we are

SplitOne is a bill splitting app run from India at splitone.in. This policy covers the website, the installable app and the API at api.splitone.in. It explains what we collect, why, who else sees it and how to get rid of it.

What we collect

Account details. You sign in with Google. We receive your email address, name and profile picture from Google, and store the account id that identifies you across sessions. We never see or store your Google password.

Things you put into a room. Room names, member names, expenses, amounts, item lists, notes, who paid, who owes whom, settlements and any UPI ID you choose to add so others can pay you.

Bill images. If you scan a bill, the image is uploaded and kept with the expense it belongs to so the room can look at it later.

Support messages. If you use Contact support or email us, we receive what you wrote, your name and your email address so we can reply.

Usage data. Standard server logs (IP address, browser, pages requested, timestamps) and, if you accept analytics cookies, Google Analytics measurement of which pages are visited.

Why we use it

  • To run a room: calculating balances, working out the fewest settlements, and showing everyone in the room who owes what.
  • To read a bill you scan and turn it into items and amounts.
  • To answer questions you ask the AI assistant about your room.
  • To send the emails you asked for: room invites, daily reminders and digests.
  • To reply when you contact support.
  • To keep the service working and safe: rate limits, daily AI quotas, debugging and abuse prevention.

We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising.

Cookies

Essential cookies keep you signed in and keep the session secure. They cannot be turned off without breaking sign-in, so we set them without asking.

Analytics cookies are optional. They come from Google Analytics and tell us which pages get used. We only load Google Analytics after you press Accept on the cookie banner. Press Decline and it is never loaded, which means no analytics cookies are set at all.

Your choice is stored in a cookie of its own for a year, then we ask again. Change it any time with Cookie settings, in the footer and in your account menu — declining after an earlier Accept also deletes the Google Analytics cookies already set.

What other people in your room can see

A room is shared by design. Anyone who is a member of a room can see the room name, the member names in it, every expense and item, the bill images attached to them, all balances and settlements, and any UPI ID a member has added. Do not put anything in a room you would not want the whole room to read.

Anyone with a room's invite link or code can join that room. Share them only with people you want in it.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of providers to run the service. They process data on our behalf and only for that purpose.

  • Google — sign-in, and Google Analytics for page measurement if you accepted analytics cookies.
  • Supabase — the database, authentication and the private storage bucket that holds bill images.
  • Google Gemini — reading scanned bills and answering AI assistant questions. The bill image or question, plus the room context the question needs, is sent to Google for processing.
  • Resend — sending invite, reminder and support emails.
  • Our hosting provider — running the website and API.

Some of these providers process data outside India. We also disclose data where the law requires it.

How long we keep it

Room data, expenses and bill images stay until they are deleted from the room or the room itself is deleted. Account data stays until you ask us to delete the account. Server logs are kept for a short period for debugging and security. Support emails stay in our inbox.

Your choices

  • Turn off reminder and digest emails in your notification settings at any time.
  • Remove an expense, a bill image or a UPI ID from a room yourself.
  • Ask us to delete your account. There is no button for this: raise it through Contact support or by email and we action it by hand, normally within 30 days. We confirm by email when it is done.
  • Ask for a copy of the data we hold about you, or ask us to correct it.

What deletion removes: your sign-in, the link between your account and the rooms you were in, and your notification settings. What it cannot remove: the expenses and settlements themselves. Other members' balances are calculated from them, so erasing them would corrupt the record for people who are still using the room. Your member name stays in the room and the seat becomes free for someone else to claim — tell us if you want the name changed to something anonymous first and we will do that.

Use Contact support in your account menu, or email support@splitone.in, and we will action any of these.

Security

Sign-in is handled by Google and Supabase, so we never hold your password. Bill images sit in a private bucket and are shown through links that expire after ten minutes. Traffic is encrypted in transit. No service is perfectly secure, but we treat what you put in a room as yours.

Children

SplitOne is not intended for anyone under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has an account, contact us and we will remove it.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where the change is significant, tell you in the app.

Contact

Email support@splitone.in, or use Contact support in your account menu. We reply to the address you write from.
